Symposium Follow-up Activities

Collaborations with State Coalitions

State coalitions are working together to advocate for and help support the operationalization of OBRA87 and symposium follow-up efforts. The Pioneer Network's State Coalitions Coordinator, Cathy Lieblich, is following these efforts of state coalitions to extend environmental code modifications to state building codes.

The Florida Experience Example: The Florida Pioneer Network was instrumental in facilitating the attendance of Skip Gregory (Bureau Chief, Office of Plans and Construction, Florida Agency for Health Care Administration) at the symposium in April. When he returned, Skip prepared a first draft of proposed modifications to the Florida Building Code which included many of the recommendations from the symposium. After input and revisions from Florida Pioneer Network, FAHSA and FHCA (the FHCA Board approved support for the changes after a number of other modifications were made to the draft to address their concerns around the financial implications of the changes, including Medicaid reimbursement concerns), Skip submitted the revisions to the Florida Building Code Committee.

Pioneer Network is committed to serving as a resource to new and already established coalitions and to providing opportunities for networking among state coalitions.
